Spooky Season in Tucson: Fun Things to Do This Halloween and Fall

October 16, 2024

Fall in Tucson is a magical time, especially for University of Arizona students

As the temperature cools down, the city comes alive with Halloween activities, festive décor, and events that are perfect for students at The Seasons to enjoy. Whether you're into haunted houses, outdoor adventures, or just love decorating with friends, there’s plenty to do both on and off-campus during October.

Halloween Fun with Your Roommates at The Seasons

One of the best things about living at The Seasons is the strong sense of community. Take advantage of this by hosting a fall-themed gathering in your apartment! Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Seasons' Resident Event: On October 30th from 4PM-7PM come start your Halloween with sweets and scares. There will be a caramel apple bar set up, free candy bags handed out, and a scary movie playing at the Clubhouse. This event is open to all. Bring a guest or two along and have fun!

  • Pumpkin carving party: Grab a few pumpkins and some snacks and invite your roommates or neighbors for a carving session. Our blog on Pumpkin Carving can help you plan the perfect night. Make sure to show off your creations in your window or on the balcony/patio for a chance to win the pumpkin carving contest.

  • DIY Fall Décor: Host a craft night with your roommates. String up some fairy lights, hang spooky banners, and decorate your apartment door to bring the season’s vibes to The Seasons.

  • Movie Marathon Night: Organize a Halloween-themed movie night in the community theater, complete with popcorn, candy, and all the best spooky classics!

Campus Events: Halloween at the U of A

The University of Arizona often hosts student events that celebrate Halloween, so keep an eye out for:

  • Halloween costume contests and pumpkin decorating competitions on campus.

  • Fright Night at UA: Look out for haunted tours of campus buildings, ghost story events, or even scary movie showings organized by student clubs.

  • UA Fraternity and Sorority Halloween Events: Many Greek life organizations host fun Halloween events, from themed parties to philanthropy-based haunted houses. These are great opportunities to meet new people and get involved!

Exploring Tucson: Haunted Houses, Hayrides, and More!

When you’re ready to venture off-campus, Tucson has a variety of Halloween attractions and fall-themed activities perfect for a night out with friends.

  • Slaughterhouse Tucson: If you’re a fan of haunted houses, this is the spot to be. Known as one of the scariest haunted attractions in Arizona, Slaughterhouse features multiple haunted houses that will send chills down your spine.

  • Terror in the Corn at Buckelew Farm: Located just outside of Tucson, Buckelew Farm offers a haunted corn maze, hayrides, and a pumpkin patch. It’s a perfect group activity for students looking for a thrilling adventure or a more laid-back fall day.

  • Historic 4th Avenue: This lively district is a must-visit for shopping, dining, and people-watching during the fall season. Many of the shops and bars on 4th Avenue go all out with Halloween decorations and themed events, making it a great place to explore.

  • Rialto Theatre: Check out the events calendar at Rialto Theatre for Halloween-themed concerts or shows happening throughout October. It’s a historic venue right downtown, and the atmosphere is perfect for a spooky night out!

Fall Activities and Day Trips

If you’re looking for more than just Halloween thrills, the fall season in Tucson offers beautiful weather and outdoor activities:

  • Mount Lemmon: Take a day trip with friends to Mount Lemmon to enjoy the fall foliage, crisp air, and hiking trails. Pack a picnic and relax under the changing trees, or stop by the local shops in Summerhaven for some seasonal treats.

  • Apple Annie’s Orchard: Located about an hour from Tucson, Apple Annie’s is a favorite for picking pumpkins, apples, and other fall harvest fruits. You can enjoy fresh apple pies, corn mazes, and hayrides for a classic fall experience.
